Lausanne, Switzerland – SportAccord confirmed it has recently become a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code as part of its ongoing commitment to clean sport. An important achievement for the new direction of SportAccord, this guarantees a comprehensive and Code compliant Anti-Doping Programme can be performed at the occasion of any multi-sport games or event organised by SportAccord.
Commenting on the importance of this new milestone for SportAccord, President Ivo Ferriani said:
“We have a key role to play in promoting clean sport and good governance principles and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with WADA, anti-doping organisations and other stakeholders, to strengthen anti-doping practices globally.
“The WADA Code is core to ensuring equality and fairness for athletes worldwide.
“Becoming a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code further enhances our commitment to clean sport and cooperation between sports organisations and public authorities worldwide.”
The primary role of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is to develop, harmonise and coordinate anti-doping rules and policies across all sports and countries. Key activities include scientific research, education, and development of anti-doping capacities, and monitoring compliance with the World Anti-Doping programme.
The Anti-Doping programme protects the athletes’ fundamental right to participate in doping-free sport. Additionally the programme enables signatories like SportAccord, to maintain the integrity of sport in terms of respect for rules, other competitors, fair competition, a level playing field, and the value of clean sport to the world.
WADA Director General Olivier Niggli said:
“I am delighted to welcome SportAccord to the list of Signatories to the World Anti-Doping Code. We at WADA recognise the commitment this entails from SportAccord as an organisation, to the rules and principles we uphold every day to protect sport and the right of athletes to compete clean. I look forward to working with our colleagues at SportAccord.”
